How to change your SharePoint language

Changing your language in SharePoint Online is a 12-step process to change your profile language, with a long wait.

  1. In your personal menu, click on My Profile
  2. Click on Update Profile under your name
  3. Scroll down to "How can I change language and regional settings?" and click on it
  4. Click on the word "here"
  5. click on the ellipsis (...) and then choose Language and Region
  6. Under Language/Language Preference/My Display Languages, delete the current language
  7. Click on Pick a new language and select the new language
  8. Note: there are lots of different versions of the language.  It doesn't matter which one you pick, with the exception of Portuguese and Chinese, where it does matter
  9. Click on Add
  10. Scroll to the bottom, and click "Save all and close"
  11. Wait about 10 to 15 minutes.  It's hard to tell how long you have to wait for it to take effect
  12. Parts of the page, like Hub navigation and personal and site menus will be in the right language when you come back tomorrow
